Fashion with a Purpose

Similar to Seam Siren, The Empowerment Plan is a company started in Detroit by Veronica Scott with the intention of using fashion to fill actual needs. The daughter of an addict, Veronica grew up never having the opportunities she deserved and often had to fight tooth and nail to get what she needed. Her idea to start The Empowerment Plan came from her research of homeless people and their need for warmer clothing during harsh midwestern winters. She created a coat that turned into a sleeping bag, but once she brought it out to the streets, she got the feedback that these people didn’t need coats, they needed jobs.
The Empowerment Plan still makes their sleeping bag coats, but now exclusively hires homeless women in need of jobs and helps countless families off the streets. Watch here to learn more about this wonderful program.
